Ryhope St/Nelson St

April 2011

Work is well under way to install the new storm drains at the junction of Ryhope St/Nelson St to stop the flooding which often occurred at this location.

Ryhope Beach

Access to Ryhope beach has now been reinstalled through the work of Northumbria Water and Sunderland Council working together when Northumbria water wanted to mend the storm water outlet pipe which had been damaged through Winter storms. (See Photo Gallery)

Ryhope Beach

Work has now started on the final stages of the closure of Ryhope beach to the public with the breakup of the concrete access ramp down the beach road in the village, with no access now between Ryhope Dene and Hendon.

 

Southern Radial Bypass

Work started on the Ryhope end of the bypass on October 31st 2005 and by the end of January 2007 work was well under way.  The new road from the A1018 roundabout to Seaham Coast road is now open as is the new link to Seaham Rd  which opened 2nd March 2007, the link from the Seaham Rd Roundabout to the Salterfen roundabout opened 1st August 2007 and the link from there to the Ocean Rd junction is also now open.

The old Scout hut in Ryhope St has been demolished to make way for building development.

Ryhope

Aurora Sunderland Street lighting has replaced all the old street lights in Ryhope to bring them up to EC standards.

Ryhope Street South - Improvements

As local people will have noticed the improvements to Ryhope Street South are now finished, and what a difference it makes, the new Street lighting makes all the improvements appear that much brighter and safer, and the Street itself is now clean and tidy the pavements and lights having been brought up to EU standards. The new Bollards and railings to keep pedestrians and Vehicles apart, making the Street a safer place to walk.

25th May 2004

As reported on December last the Toll Bar public house was pulled down, I can now tell you that it has been replaced by a block of 22 well - appointed luxury apartments on three floors and secure car parking on the ground floor with grand views over the sea. The name of the building is to be called Toll Bar House keeping its links with the past.
